But before the Symphony No. 3 funeral, here’s what the pianist and violinist will be playing while I die alone in the forest, and walk away from my body.
Yea, I know it’s far from obscure, but perhaps one of the few justifiably popular pieces of music. But really, who am I to say?
Really, this song is what I’d like my life to sound like, but I’m too afraid that if I’m quiet, I’ll be forgotten. Or be considered useless. For so long I’ve gotten by on what I’ve had to say, even though people regard me as quiet. An extroverted introvert. And become maddeningly outspoken at the same time. But then I hear a piece of music like this and remember, Oh, right, that’s what I’ve meant to be.
Or the line “He’s not outspoken, but he likes to speak, and likes to be spoken to” of Making Plans for Nigel, by XTC. That’s it exactly.
Making Plans for Spiegel.
By the way, if you’re following your advent calendar, Sunday was the day of the Magnificat, and Pärt has a fantastic version that I conveniently learned of on Saturday.
