It seems the song plays by default, sorry if music starts playing and you weren’t expecting it. I tried to edit that out of the html, but don’t know enough and what I tried didn’t work. But the song is the impetus of this, and the lyrics warrant a listen not distracted by the reading of the words below.
If John K. Samson sings:
“It seems the most I have to offer doesn’t offer much”
What hope is there for me?
As CBC Radio3 host Grant Lawrence once introduced the song Utilities, it’s a song about wanting to be useful.
It seems like relating life to lyrics (especially pop lyrics) is only a small step above relating life to movies, but Utilities is a never-endingly great song (I’ve written about it before, so I won’t bother to address it’s accolades again); music, lyrics, feel, all of it. Except that guitar solo. And I want to be useful/am feeling about as useless as ever. Left and Leaving is just about as wonderful, are nearly as relevant. So listen to ’em if you want.
