I think we need new technology. It seems ghosts are never privy to technological advances. First, the light bulb spooked ’em. Then they were caught off guard by photographs, but then they got smart and we stopped hearing about it. It seemed to take them a while to realize hand-held video cameras were actually recording them, but judging by their lack of recent publicity, they got camera shy. So what’s next?
Is Ripley really giving me a choice to believe or not? I’m assuming he is claiming the facts he gives are true, so would I not be a fool to disregard it? But if he is giving me a choice, am I not a fool to believe it all?
Maybe insects have humanity-saving secrets, or special messages from God and that’s why they fly so close to our faces, but we swat them away before giving them a chance to speak. It makes one appreciate their perseverence; I’ve been swatting them for 24 years, and I assume mankind has been swatting them much longer, yet still, they relentlessly come, attempting to deliver the words that would make life sweeter.
One time while working at the estate, I was startled by and quickly swatted this white mass from my shirt noticed in my periphery. First noticing the white powder it left on my shirt, I immediately regretted by death-inflicting swat when I saw the angelic, pure-white, anamolic moth lying forever motionless on the ground. God was probably going to tell me what I should do with my life after college in a few years, or that He was joyful that the job he blessed me with gave me joy. Instead, I shot the messenger.
