Dear me, the vulgarities in this country are so appalling! It is if they are barbarians or something.
Usually when I go to market I hear people yelling out ‘One bowl a pound’ – referring to the fruit they sell. And the novelty of it means a smile is inevitable. When I went on Monday a guy was yelling out ‘One bowl of shit bananas 50 p.’ At least he was honest. I smiled more when hearing that.
Last night was the annual De Montfort University Vs. Leicester University rugby match. The big rivalry in Leicester City. The DMU girls lost, but DMU you mens team won 21-12, and DMU also won the drinking championship at half-time. So out of three matches we were 2 for 3. There were cheerleaders (quite unexpected in a culture that is not American) who were rather aweful, but they had one simple, brilliant cheer. ‘1 2 3 4, kick those fuckers to ground.’ Everyone was shocked to hear that. The fans had their own cheers for their respective schools. Leicester Uni had two clever ones: ‘Failed your A-levels, get DMUsed to it.’ And ‘DMUseless.’ I will not bother explaining A-levels. When the Leicester fans started chanting ‘Leicester!’ the DMU fans were keen enough to add ‘shit’ each time.
Oh those clever Brits. Unsatisfactory to be sure. I expected more from these people, and all I got was more of us.
Honestly, having watched a rugby match in person and not just on the TV, it looks rather fun. American football that does not stop and they do not wear pads. Like in war, the medics run on the field during play unless someone is so hurt they have to stop play.
I am surprised that in these modern days of equal rights, affirmative action, and general equality, there are still cheerleaders. Cheerleading with British voices seems such low culture. So American. Though I am not keen on American cheerleading either. I am not against the idea of cheering on a team, but putting women out there to be gawked at by men is not something I can support. Apparantly the girls had ‘demons win’ in letter on their bums. I looked away as soon as I saw the first one bend over and lift up her skirt, so I only know by others around me. Motorcity Motion, or whatever the Pistons dance team is called, is just blatant objectification of women. And the way NFL and NBA teams flaunt them is just appalling. Look at the Miami Heat site. Is it a dance team or a bastket ball team?
CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPS! Pistons are going to get the championship again!
