To all those out there who listen to good music; it’s time to step up. Those who listen to rap and ‘bump’ as they call it in their cars, are not going to turn their music down. We will forever be plagued with being forced, without our concent, to their music. So in response, we must turn our music UP! No longer shall we listen to screaming at the decibel level of a whisper. No longer shall we keep breakdowns to ourselves with our windows up. You don’t even need a so called ‘system’ to do this. JUST TURN YOUR MUSIC UP!!! I’ve never pulled up next to someone and heard At The Drive In bellowing from the depth of their vehicle. Nor have I filled my gas tank and heard and thing remotely ‘hard-core’ from the kid at the stop light. This works for the Postal Service(I just heard one of their songs on a movie preview on TV) as well. And don’t be afraid to turn up Sufjan Stevens. You know the whole world would benifit from his song ‘Detroit, lift your weary head! (rebuild, restore, recover) and you know you want to share that groove near the end of that song with all in a 1/4 mile radius. Do you like Thursday? Well so should the rest of the world, so let them hear it! Don’t sing about bringing a knife to a gun fight alone, have the guy next to you sing along! Don’t reminisce the days of MXPX and Chris Carraba’d Further Seems Forever while denying others on the road the same experience. Don’t bang your head to a breakdown with out the synchronization the other people at the stop light. I want to enjoy the first Juliana Theory CD just as much as you do, so turn it up! Let the world know you’re Societies Finest. I can’t sing along with you to Denison Witmer if I can’t here it! Don’t be ashamed that the mother next to you thinks all that yelling and screaming is ‘of the Devil’. She probably lost her virginity after a STYX concert when she was your age, so who cares what she thinks! You can even let the familiar sounds of Beethoven’s 5th be heard to all, it’s better than rap! If you’ve got a Buddy Rich drum solo, or even Charlie Parker on the sax, it’s better than rap. I hate saxaphones.
Don’t let the pop world be the only genre represented on the streets of your fine city. Be proud of your bands, and help the poor sap ‘bumping’ to his rap find a healthy alternative to his unfortunate music selection. We can change the world. If you read this, you probably listen to good music, SO PUT YOUR WINDOWS DOWN AND TURN YOU MUSIC UP!!!
**Disclaimer** This does not apply if the music you are playing is CCM. Your CCM might very well be good, but please, keep the windows up.
And on a similar note, if your CCM is also worship music, listen only. Driving, unless stopped in a traffic jam, is not a time for lifting of hands and closing eyes; that is no more safe than talking on ones cellular telephone, and may be classified as ‘driving under the influence’. For the sake of the safety and sanity of other drivers, please find another, less reckless way to worship while in your vehicle. I am quite sure God wouldn’t be any more pleased by you killing someone in a traffic accident as a result of your worshipping, than you pulling out a gun and shooting someone in the face. And then having them mauled by a bear. As Freedom used to say, if you killed someone in a car accident and you died too, your last action on earth would be killing somebody.
