i heard ‘the christmas song’ by dave matthews on the radio today. that made me happy. it was npr so they were playing all kinds of christmas music, but it was still nice to hear that song on the radio. if youve never heard that song, i highly reccomend finding that song on the internet or someone who has it. its on a few of the live cds, and i think ‘remember two things’. i dont know. its a fantastic song.
my neighbour joe came home from afghanastan this weekend and i just got back from goin out to eat with his family and ours. he has some interesting stories. one thing he said was that ‘its like the place that time forgot’. obviously because of their lack of technology and all that stuff. and my dad in his ‘super-christian’ thinking made some comment about how all those countries out there follow allah and how far behind they are in civilization. he didnt say that exactly, but i knew what he meant. i dont agree that they are following the right god, but at least they havent sold themselves to the devil. they may be way being in technology and what we call civilization, but at least they are staying true to what they believe, even if it is wrong. an article on my homepage talked about how the porn industry in iraq went from nothing to huge in the last few months theyve had their freedom. thats why the people over there crashed planes into our buildings! our audacios western society was infiltrating their and to them, it was ruining them and their people morally. they didnt just hate us because we went over there and tried to ‘keep peace’, they dont like the non-moralization of the western society. so we go over there, do our western ‘good’ and already look what is happening. iraq may not have been the ones that crashed planes into our buildings, but ‘freedom’ in afghanastan is coming the same as in iraq. i think it is quite terrible that people flew planes into the twin towers, but i also think it is quite terrible we impose our western society and ‘freedom’ on people who dont want it. the crashing of the planes needed to happen. if it could have been done another way to make us wake up, id rather that happened. but i dont think there is any way to get it through our ignorant, arrogent american heads that our life isnt the best life for everyone. the war with iraq was necessary because hussein wasnt following the guidlines he said he would with u.n. but weve gone to spread democracy all over the world now. we arent even a democracy.
i think as far as (evil)dictators go, hussein really sucked. he may have killed some people in his own country by testing chemical weapons on them. he may have tried to eliminate a race of people from his country. but what revolution did he start? how many major wars did he start? what new society or government did help form? none. thats right. he was just a greedy rich guy. he didnt even die as a martyr for his cause. we found him in a little hole. and if he really did have a gun, he didnt go out quick and painless like supposedly hitler did. now he is goin to have to face questioning and trials and jail time and jail time raping and maybe exectution. are hitler and stalin no example? at least go out trying to change the world or something. hussein went from poor to richer than anyone he knew and in control of his country and in some way in control of us, to a guy who hadnt shaved or bathed in a while and hiding in a hole. he could have at least started shooting when they found him and died as a hero fighting for his country. but alas, we just pulled him out of a hole to subject him to civilized judicial systems. i should become a dictator.
